Emergency situation revoked as bag declared non-suspicious

UPDATE: Police have revoked an emergency situation declared under the Public Safety Preservation Act after an incident involving a bag being left unattended in Ipswich this morning.

Around 7.20am police were advised of a large bag being left unattended at a bus stop on Bell Street.

Surrounding businesses were evacuated while special police attended the scene and rendered the item safe around 9.15am.

The affected streets have since reopened and police wish to thank members of the public for their patience while officers attended the scene.

 

BREAKING: Police have declared an emergency situation and evacuated Bell St in the Ipswich CBD after a suspicious package was detected under a bus seat located near the icon tower.

Police cordoned off the area and evacuated nearby businesses after a blue bag was reported unattended by a member of the public at about 7.45am.

An emergency situation has been declared between the areas of Limestone, Ellenborough and East streets and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.

Police are currently investigating.
