Man in custody after hour long chase through Rockhampton

2.10pm: POLICE have one man in custody believed to be the male that has led a chase through Rockhampton for the past hour.

Reports indicate they have located the male in a block of units off Painsworth Street in Berserker.

No one has been hurt during the chase.

Police have confirmed the man had absconded from a mental health treatment facility.

2.05PM: A MAN being chased by police was dropped off by a taxi in North Rockhampton just before 2pm.

Reports indicate the taxi log shows he was dropped off near Elizabeth Park, on the corner of Edward and Painsworth Street.

It is believed he has run into a block of units behind the bowling alley.

What we know:

  • Wanted man was first seen on Fitzroy River foot bridge
  • Next sighting report was of the man on North St, near pathology service which is on the corner of Bolsover St
  • At one stage, he ran through a construction site, over new cement, but no damage to cement
  • He was spotted by a citizen hopping into a maxi taxi which drove north
  • Taxi log shows he was dropped off on corner of Edward and Painsworth Streets in Berserker
  • He is of islander appearance, wearing a long-sleeved maroon shirt, shorts and a blue cap on backwards.

 

1.55PM: REPORTS indicate the man police are chasing in Rockhampton city has caught a maxi taxi.

It is believed the maxi taxi was headed north over the bridge.

 

1.15pm: MULTIPLE crews are chasing a man on foot through Rockhampton CBD.

The man was sighted on the Fitzroy River foot bridge, has made his way past a motel on the corner of Bolsover and Albert St.

He then sighted near the pathology office on Bolsover St, then heading north on North Street.

He is of islander appearance, wearing a long-sleeved maroon shirt, shorts and a blue cap on backwards.

He has run through fresh cement while being chased by police. Reports indicate there was no damage to the cement.
