Plenty of power on show as 4x4s take over at Lowmead

LOWMEAD revved up on Sunday when extreme four-wheel-drive action took over.

The 2012 Lister Motors Lowmead 3 Car challenge has officially been run and won.

One of the organisers, James Maroske, said the event got better every year, but this by far was the biggest and best.

"It was a really good weekend, huge crowds, everybody loved it," he said.

"We were lucky the rain stayed away."

Fifty-one cars made up 17 teams to take on 10 stages of extreme 4x4 action.

Some cars didn't quite make it through, according to Maroske, who said there were a few breakages and roll-overs.

"There were also some great drives with cars having to use a heap of right foot to claw their way up two side by side winch walls that were super greasy.

"If you can't work as a team, you don't have a hope of getting through the hard parts," he said.

"It's all about team work."
