Vintage treasure up for grabs in Endeavour auction

IF you'd like to grab a slice of vintage treasure, old suitcases are being auctioned at the Endeavour Foundation Gladstone retail store.

Five of the shop window suitcases are up for grabs, with the proceeds going towards disability services.

Retail store manager Matilda Birath said she had had significant interest in the items that she guessed would be about 50 years old.

"I decided I wanted to do something a bit fun and different when selling them, and I came up with the idea of doing an auction."

Matilda has been the manager for the past six months and came across the suitcases at the back of the shop.

"I thought they were just so beautiful so I put them on display in the window," she said.

Since starting the auction in early September, she said people had been excited by the concept.

"It's amazing when people come into the shop just to talk about the suitcases," she said.

"People are being very creative. One lady talked about turning one into a coffee table."

If you would like to place a bid on one of the suitcases call the shop on 4972 2516 or visit the store at 167 Auckland St.

Bidding closes at noon on Friday, September 20.
