Firies called out twice as pit fire flares up

THE burgers in the kitchen were safe, but a fire between McDonald's and the service station at Kirkwood had to be put out twice on Sunday.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said a large area was alight when crews turned up at 3.45pm.

Several 000 calls had gone through at 3.30pm.

The spokesman said the fire started in a telecommunications pit, with plumes of blue-green flame coming from it.

Crews used an extinguisher to put the fire out, but had to return at 5.30pm after a small flare-up due to wind.
