‘Piece of s---’: DV offender cops probation order

A man who verbally abused his partner and breached his domestic violence order, appeared in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The man, 66, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to contravening a domestic violence order.

Police prosecutor Carl Spargo read the facts of the man's case to the court and Magistrate Bevan Manthey.

On April 15, about 5.45pm, police were called to attend a residence on Ann St by the aggrieved who said the defendant was being verbally abusive.

On arrival, responding police stood under the high-set home and recorded the defendant while he was unaware they were present.

Police clearly heard the defendant yelling to the aggrieved, "You're a piece of s---, you're a f---- piece of s---."

Police announced themselves and detained both parties and spoke to them separately.

Police almost immediately identified the defendant was grossly intoxicated and he could not be questioned.

The aggrieved stated that the behaviour was a daily occurrence as the defendant was an alcoholic.

She had taken particular offence that evening as the defendant had threatened to disclose to their children that the defendant had previously had an abortion.

Police did not speak directly to the children, however, did take note they were present and had observed the defendant's behaviour.

The defendant was arrested and transported to the Gladstone watch-house where he returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.250.

He was released on bail.

Mr Manthey placed the defendant on a 12-month probation order and recorded a conviction.
