Peter Costello appointed as guardian of the Future Fund

FORMER Treasurer Peter Costello and a director of casino and hotelier Crown Perth have been appointed to the Abbott Government's Future Fund Board of Guardians.

Treasurer Joe Hockey and Finance Minister Matthias Cormann announced the appointments on Tuesday.

Mr Costello, who established the fund in 2006, has already been on the board since 2009, and has been acting chairman since David Gonski left last month.

Mr Hockey also announced John Poynter AM as a new member of the board, after more than 40 years working across the financial services sector.

Mr Poynter is currently the chairman of Azure Capital and a director of Crown Perth, Crown's primary West Australian interest.
