Petal to the metal with over 100 orders at Gladstone florist

IT'S petal central at Jan's Flower Shoppe on Toolooa St, as staff are still busily preparing bouquets ahead of Mother's Day on Sunday.

From tulips to carnations, to roses and lilies, flowers of all types and colours are being delivered to mums, grandmothers and wives around the country as a token of appreciation for all that they do.

Gladstone mums are in for a treat this year, with over 100 orders counted for Mother's Day at Jan's Flower Shoppe.

Second in charge, Emma Koivunen, said it has been a crazy week.

"We've had lots of orders taken for out of town, like Brisbane, New South Wales and Melbourne.

"We've got three staff at the front who have never done flowers before.

"We had to get them in just for Mother's Day; it's pretty full on!" she said.

The shop is an Interflora delivery service as well, with a specific Mother's Day catalogue for customers to choose their arrangement from.

A lot of last minute orders have been flowing in since Thursday, with only a few early birds ordering their gift last week.

Ms Koivunen's mother Jan, who is the owner of the shop, said the 2014 Mother's Day has been constantly busy.

"The trade is bigger this year than in previous years.

"We even had to hire an extra fridge to fit the flowers. It's 20 feet," Jan said.
