Coast shoemaker bound for World Fashion Week

A SUNSHINE Coast designer shoemaker has been invited to show its wares at World Fashion Week in Paris this month.

The invitation could be the big break that Jackie Orme Ward and her business partner Adrian Lockwood have been waiting for 27 years to come their way.

Jackie and Adrian established their label, Pendragon, in 1987 after cobbling some shoes together to wear to a medieval fair.

Their handmade shoes and boots have since featured at Munich Fashion Week and in Italian Vogue, and a pair are in the permanent collection of Sydney's Powerhouse Museum.

Jackie said a mentor had instigated their invitation to the World Fashion Week trade show on September 30.

She and Adrian are preparing 20 couture boots, shoes, summer booties and handbags for the show

They hope it will give them much-needed exposure to international fashion buyers but Jackie is trying to remain cautious about the reception awaiting their wares.

They have turned to crowd-funding to attend the event and so far have received $2085 in pledges towards their $7500 target.

"We'll get there but it will be so much better if we're not in personal debt when we come home," she said.

The Hotel Maroochydore, where Jackie's husband Russell works, will hold raffles the next two Fridays at 4.30pm to raise money.

The hamper prizes include a $150 Pendragon voucher.
