Pelicans feature in 1770 LARC! photo competition win

AN IMAGE taken by The Observer's chief photographer, Brenda Strong, has taken top prize in the 1770 LARC! Tours Nature Photo Competition.

Queensland's Best Job in the World holder, "park ranger" Elisa Detrez, visited Seventeen Seventy on Wednesday as judge of the competition.

Ms Strong's image of Seventeen Seventy's resident pelicans caught the eye of Elisa, 29, the 2013 winner of the Best Jobs in Australia, Queensland park ranger.

She comes from Paris, has degrees in Business Management, Tourism and Political Sciences, speaks four languages and has lived and worked in Spain, New Zealand and Germany.

Together with photographer partner Maxime Coquard, Elisa has been travelling Queensland, working her way from the tropical north along the coast, loving the scenery, the nature and photographic opportunities.

"Having travelled throughout many Queensland national parks during her Best Jobs in Australia role, Elisa was the perfect person to judge our photographic competition," said LARC owner / operator Neil Mergard.

"Our LARC! vessels are like a rolling grandstand through national parks and Bustard Bay, and our passengers are always snapping photos in awe at the amazing wildlife and natural beauty that they witness on tour.

"Just last week we saw an emu and seven chicks. We love it when our passengers share their tour images, and having this competition has drawn out some truly LARCtastic nature photos."

As competition winner, Brenda receives two adult tickets on the LARC! Paradise Tour and a Town of 1770 t-shirt, valued in total at $339.

Following the judging, Eliza and Max, with destination director - Southern Great Barrier Reef at Tourism and Events Queensland Karen Ronning, and Paris Match journalist Isabelle Leouffre and photographer Philippe Petit, set off on a LARC! tour.
