Private dental vouchers for Agnes residents with long wait
AGNES Water residents who are on a waiting list for public health dental services will have some reprieve this year.
The state government will offer vouchers to Agnes Water residents who have been on a waiting list for two years or more for dental surgery.
Burnett MP Stephen Bennett said it was the result from ongoing lobbying from services including Agnes Water Dental.
"It was a real disadvantage. We had these local dentists that could do all of these services, yet people were still struggling to get in to the public system," Mr Bennett said.
"It's a small step in having people be able to present themselves for medical treatment regardless of wealth or lack thereof."
Residents who are on a waiting list for public services have been encouraged to approach the Bundaberg or Gladstone hospitals for a voucher.
The vouchers are for residents with a pension or health care card and can be used at private practices and will be available by mid-year.
Agnes Water Dental owner Harshpreet Kohli has lobbied for the vouchers for months.
"We're finally getting an outcome to this," he said.
