Gladstone couple celebrates 60 years by renewing vows
IT'S a sparkling diamond year for Merril and Bevan Ruback.
On May 2 the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, their own diamond jubilee.
At a service at St Saviour's Church they renewed their wedding vows, which was followed by a morning tea with 120 family and friends attending.
The pair met in 1949 at a dance in the Trades Hall in Maryborough.
"It was the place to be on a Friday night if you loved to dance," Merril said.
After they married in 1953 they packed their bags for Ingham in 1956.
Eventually they moved to Gladstone in 1971, originally for just six months.
"Gladstone has been very good to us and we have no intention of moving," Merril said.
Now the pair has three children, eight grandchildren and almost 14 great-grandchildren.
"We have had 60 years of a very full and interesting marriage," Merril said.
