Mining contract firm expands to Papua New Guinea and WA

A PAGET maintenance and construction contracting business is about to open two new offices, including one overseas.

CQ Field Mining Services general manager Dean Scott said an overwhelming number of applicants had responded to advertisements for office managers in Papua New Guinea and Western Australia, to be based at Port Hedland and Cairns.

"For WA we've got over 40 applicants so far and the PNG role we're sitting at about 52-55 applicants," he said..

"About 10%-15% are local applicants."

CQ Field Mining Services tried to source local employees where applicable, Mr Scott said.

The company had seen an opportunity to expand after undertaking minor works in Papua New Guinea and Western Australia, he said.

It was also in the process of adding a business development manager for its Paget workshop to join the 150-strong team.

CQ Field Mining Services is one of the region's major maintenance and construction contractors. It undertakes work for a variety of mining clients including in the Bowen Basin.

There are three divisions within the company - field maintenance, diesel maintenance and projects.

Mr Scott said the business had been doing well despite the industry downturn.

"We've performed strongly over the downturn," he said.

"That was directly derived from good practice, good people and processes."

People were the key to the company, which has been in Paget for 11 years, he said.
