Sunshine Coast reality TV stars recall spotlight fondly
FORGET 15 minutes of fame, Sunshine Coast former reality stars are singing the praises of their television experiences.
Over the years, the Coast has had its fair share of cooking queens, renovation gurus and singing superstars.
Some of our most recent reality stars have shared what life after reality televis-ion is really like in the wake of My Kitchen Rules villain Kelly Ramsay (pictured below right) lashed out at the treatment she received during the show from the producers and public.
At the same time, Big Brother cry-baby Tully Smith has this week publicly offered some choice words for those who've never experienced the post-reality-show blues.
The Voice 2012 runner-up Darren Percival said the hit reality singing competition was the best thing to happen to him. Enjoying his stint on 92.7 Mix FM morning show with Caroline, and preparing to embark on a national tour next week, the Coolum dad said life was throwing him welcomed opportunities.
Since leaving the The Voice microphone behind on stage, Darren has still retained the hearts of the nation that voted for him week after week.
His new album Lovelife is out now and his tour starts in Melbourne next Friday with a stop at The Events Centre Caloundra on July 4.
"The producers of shows can only portray you and work with what they are given," Darren said.
"Viewers aren't stupid, if you are genuine, the public will connect with you."
"The only negative from the show is that it is difficult to get into TV to promote the record on television because The Voice is on Channel 9 and I am connected by that brand in their view."
My Kitchen Rules brother and sister Jake and Elle Harrison have been busy since their 2013 appearance, running their pop-up restaurant at Eat Street Market in Brisbane and finish their university studies.
"It doesn't even feel like a year ago, we've been so busy," Elle said. "We've heard about what the Western Australia girls have been saying and it's really sad.
"Channel Seven have been so great at giving us those opportunities and we never had a bad experience.
"Without the show, we could never have done what we've done and owned our own business at our age."
