Gladstone house now a home after renovations
DO-IT-YOURSELF renovations can be done well and within a reasonable time period - just ask Will Suann.
After purchasing their property on Whiting St, Gladstone in September 2011, Will and his girlfriend immediately realised the potential in their 15-year-old house.
With a get-straight-into-it attitude, the couple set about working on the old, unstylish house.
What they did not realise at the time was just how tasteful, modern, neat and cosy their home would become.
Spending many weekends and late nights the duo managed to complete their project within a few months.
Will said the renovations consisted of many elements including painting the entire house from a dirty, dusty baby blue to a bright "hog bristle" colour.
"We installed new taps in the bathroom and ripped out the carpet in the living room and laid tiles," he said.
"We also installed new lights and ceiling fans throughout the house plus new roofing over the patio."
The one thing the couple did not attempt themselves was laying the carpets.
To top it off, Will also built a new fence at the front of the house that looks perfectly professional in every way.
The fence was completed between two weekends.
"Some of the work was a little challenging only because I hadn't done some of the work before, like laying tiles," Will said.
Thankfully Will utilised the expertise of his girlfriend's dad, via Skype.
"I did some research and it didn't take long for me to get the hang of it."
With limited time and using materials from local suppliers, the couple completed some amazing work.
As an electrician Will already has many tools, but mentioned when it came to materials he was a huge Bunnings fan.
When it comes to renovations Will said the best advice he could give was do your homework.
"Ask for advice from the experts because a lot of work you can do yourself and you can save yourself some money."
