Origin legends to visit Rocky
FRESH on the back of the Queensland state of origin team to visit Gladstone on June 14, neighbouring Rockhampton will not miss out either.
Newly appointed XXXX Queensland Maroons coach Kevin Walters and the State of Origin Shield will visit Rockhampton as part of the Suncorp's Regional Origin Shield Tour on Thursday, April 21 at Browne Park.
The three-day tour, which will start in Cairns and Townsville, will have five of Queensland's former Origin greats such as Justin Hodges, Brent Tate (pictured), Michael Hancock, Steve Renouf and Gary Belcher who will join Kevin Walters and give youngsters an opportunity to meet their idols.
As part of the tour, children aged from five to 13 years will have the opportunity to register for an NRL development clinic which will run alongside a family fun day in each location.
Local fans will be also be given the opportunity to record their own pre-game pump-up speech for the Maroons for their chance to win a money-can't-buy State of Origin experience at Suncorp Stadium.
Walters is looking forward to visiting regional Queensland and to share his experience on Queensland's Origin success.
"There's no denying the stronghold North and Central Queensland have on rugby league," Walters said.
"The regions are home to some of the country's greatest teams and talent and it's crucial we recognise how important this part of the state is to the game's future.
"This tour is our way of sharing the success of the Queensland Maroons with those who live and breathe the sport. We'll have the Shield on display, signings and photo opportunities with the FOGs, footy challenge games, face painting, competitions, and the whole lot."
