Orchid fans put on blooming beautiful show despite wet

RECENT wet weather put a dampener on this year's Boyne Tannum Orchid and Foliage Society show, with numbers down on attendance and orchids put on display.

But it didn't dampen the spirits of Frank and Helen Mollenhauer, who won the Boyne Tannum Champion Club Orchid Exhibitor and the Champion Specimen Orchid of Show awards.

The society's secretary Sue Marxsen said awarding the Champion Orchid of Show was still a highlight despite the lower numbers.

"We were down on numbers this year," she said, although they still had about 700 people walk through the doors.

The wet weather didn't seem to deter John and Bethel Hughes from Bundaberg Orchid Society, who took out the top award for Champion Orchid of Show.

The Bundaberg green thumbs may have earned the top gong but the local society was well represented, taking out 11 of the 13 special class awards.
