Opinion: Only time will tell on success of budget

NO MATTER which way the budget turned out last night, there's nothing more certain than the fact that there will be people who are angry.

It's a basic fact that budgets never suit every person.

Political decisions are much the same.

There are reasons why they are made, and there will always be people who believe their views have been left unheard.

Such is life when you are running a country - no matter how large that country is.

Right now the government is telling us that we all have to pull our belts in and we need to, basically, suck it up.

No doubt these guys think they are doing the right thing with the decisions made last night.

It's only time that will tell if it is the right way to go about balancing the books.

One thing's for sure: if the governments of Australia - local, state and federal - were businesses they'd be dead in the water.

It's time to look at the waste that government is and has been for many years.

But that's a big ask.
