Woman dies following two-vehicle crash in Uki

 

Update: 5.22pm

A 15-year old girl is in a critical condition after a fatal crash on Kyogle Rd near Uki on Thursday afternoon.

Westpac Life Safer Rescue Helicopter have confirmed the girl was airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital in a critical condition. 

Three other children aged as young as three were taken to Gold Coast and Tweed Hospitals. 

The extent of their injuries are unclear at this point. 

 

Update 2.05pm: A woman has died and six people are injured following a two-vehicle crash near Uki on Thursday afternoon. 

Just before 1pm, a Suzuki SX4 was travelling north along Kyogle Rd, about 5km north of Uki.

A Mazda Astina was travelling south along the same road, when the two vehicles collided head-on.

Emergency services were called; however the female driver of the Mazda died at the scene.

Her female passenger was trapped in the vehicle, and was expected to be airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital in a serious condition.

The female driver of the Suzuki was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital.

Her four passengers were children aged between three and 15 years. 

Two were taken to Gold Coast Hospital and the other two taken to Tweed Hospital, all suffered varying injuries.

No one else was injured during the incident.

Tweeb/Byron LAC police, fire fighters, ambulance paramedics and the Volunteer Rescue Association all attended the scene.

As police continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the incident, they are appealing for anyone with information or any witnesses to come forward and contact local police via Crime Stoppers.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Update: 1.31pm

ONE person has been confirmed deceased after a car crash on Kyogle Rd, Uki. 

An Ambulance NSW spokeswoman said she could not provide any further details as the incident is now a police matter. 

It's understood a number of people were transported to hospital, and it's believed at least two children were involved in the incident.

A Tweed District Rescue Squad spokesman has confirmed they were called to the incident about 1pm Thursday. 

It's believed some children may have been involved in the incident.
