Gladstone gymnasts go on to compete at state titles

FIVE athletes from Gladstone Gymnastics Club will be putting their skills to the test from this Friday until Sunday at the Senior State Championships and State Trials.

Level eight men's gymnast Adam Parker and level eight women's gymnasts Whitney Dew, 16, Michaela Warwick, 15, as well as level seven women's gymnasts Aime Parker, 14, and Kiera Davis, 14, have been training hard in the lead-up to the event.

They train about 20 hours a week.

The top six athletes at the championships, held at Sleeman Arena in Brisbane, will qualify for nationals; while the second set of six following qualify for the Border Challenge.

All the girls said they have experienced competing at state championships previously in gymnastics.

Whitney's favourite discipline is the beam, Michaela enjoys the bars, while Kiera and Aime's preferred discipline is floor.

"I enjoy meeting people and it's a challenge in life," Michaela said of the sport.
