$700m oil refinery to be built in Gladstone

THERE will be 1000 more construction jobs available in Gladstone when construction begins on a US$700 million oil refinery at the Gladstone State Development Area.

Eagle Ford Oil and Gas Corporation and Casper Energy Pty Ltd will construct the first new major refinery in Australia in 50 years.

The development will involve construction of a greenfield oil refinery incorporating new crude oil import infrastructure, heavy crude oil conversion refinery plant and a product storage terminal with a capacity of 100 million litres.

The construction of the project is expected to last four years and generate up to 1000 construction jobs. Once operational the refinery is expected to support 300 permanent jobs.

Finalisation and approval processes will take 18 months to complete.
