Final round of all ages bike battle at Turkey Beach

CHAMPIONSHIP titles are up for grabs when the final enduro round of the Central Queensland Off-road Series kicks off on Sunday at Turkey Beach.

Curtis Coast Trail Riders Club president Brad Harris said the racing would be of high quality.

Junior and senior riders will battle it out on the 20-30km long track.

"It's the best endurance riders from across Central Queensland who will be here battling it out," Harris said.

"We've got a few guys who compete in the Queensland round and a few that go in the national off-road events too."

The course comprises three tracks, a junior track for 65cc and 85cc classes, a junior track for 125cc and 250cc classes and the senior track.

The smallest junior track is about 10km long, while the senior track is about 20km in length.

Junior competition is expected to be fierce, as the young speedsters try to claim the title.

"All the junior rounds are within a couple of points of each other or on equal points," Harris said.

"Basically whoever comes first on Sunday will win the junior series."

Harris said the senior divisions, which included expert, unlimited, veteran and clubman classes were also going to be closely fought out.

Competitors were desperate to secure the championship. "It's pretty well the same situation as the juniors for the senior guys," he said.

"The guy winning the expert class is one of two brothers, and he's off to Western Australia for the Australian four-day event which has opened the door for other guys in the class to sneak in and grab first place."

Harris expected the expert senior class to be one of the highlights of the round for keen spectators.

"The younger brother is going to compete for both brothers, which definitely is a disadvantage to them, but has meant a more exciting event as the other blokes have a chance to grab the title now," he said.

Nominations will remain opened Saturday night and Sunday morning about 6am for riders wishing to enter, however they must be affiliated with Motorcycling Queensland.
