NZ WARSHIP HMNZS Canterbury will travel to Gladstone today as training for Exercise Talisman Sabre comes to an end.

It will pick up two NH90 helicopters, army vehicles and personnel, which were taken to Gladstone for training in Shoalwater Bay.

HMNZS Canterbury was berthed at Gladstone's Auckland Point 4 wharf last month, where it unloaded equipment and defence personnel.

From Gladstone Canterbury will sail for Wellington to unload the cargo and personnel.

It was the first time New Zealand troops were involved in Talisman Sabre.

The troops were trained in land, air and maritime warfare, including amphibious operations at Shoal Water Bay, near Rockhampton.

But the visit wasn't without implications, with several protests taken in Rockhampton during the training.

It was reported in the Rockhampton Morning Bulletin that protests cost police more than $50,000.
