Bartenders share what NOT to do if you want a drink

DON'T click your fingers and never pinch a barmaid's bum are the simple tips being given out this Bartender Appreciation Day.

The day originated in the US but has spread to the UK, where there was recently a petition asking the Government to make it a recognised holiday and day off for bartenders.

Fiddlers Green bartender Nuala Evans said she experienced a spectrum of customers when she was working behind the bar at the Waterfront pub.

"Some people treat you as if you've just handed them their first child," Ms Evans said, "while others have no appreciation at all."

She said some of the worst experiences she'd had on the job were when people, particularly drunk people, were inappropriate.

"I've had guys grabbing my arse," she said.

"Or I've had someone yelling at me from the other end of the bar 'could your shorts get any shorter', which has just made me ask them to leave."

But she said she always had good customers too.

"People who bring their own glasses back to the bar, or just anyone who is understanding when they can see it's busy, are great.

"It's pretty simple - be polite and know what you want."
