NRL player Matt Bowen visits Aurukun

FORMER Indigenous All Stars rugby league player Matt Bowen has visited the troubled Cape York community of Aurukun.

Bowen, who also played for North Queensland in the NRL, joined Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt on the trip yesterday following the removal of 20 teachers last month after violent incidents involving students.

Bowen told ABC Radio he played football with students and told them to attend school every day. Mr Pitt said he wanted to hear from as many locals as possible about how to drive positive change and ensure public safety.
