ERNIE Pitts builds model boats and he was blown away on Saturday when he explored Notorious.

The replica 15th century Caravel had hoards of people waiting to walk the plank all weekend.

Mr Pitt said it was the most authentic vessel he had seen.

"It is exactly how it would have been in the 15th century," he said.

"It's all down with saws and except for a few bolts almost perfect."

Tyrin Howes said it was good to see how the boats were made in the old days.

"It's just a bit of history," he said. "You never see things like this.

"The kids loved it. They get excited to see new things or old things."
