Nothing transcendent about latest Johnny Depp flick
Transcendence - M - Drama/Thriller - Now Showing - 119mins
Verdict: Transcendence is overly long, much like its title.
Transcendence stars Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall and Morgan Freeman and is directed award winning cinematographer, Wally Pfister.
It follows the story of Dr Will Caster who is shot, and is given a month to live.
His wife, played fabulously by Rebecca Hall, saves him by uploading his consciousness to a computer.
Things obviously go awry, which creates "Transcendence".
As were many people, I was extremely looking forward to this film. It had quite an original story and amazing advertisements.
Johnny Depp is one of my favourite actors which created more personal excitement.
But it is an awfully disappointing movie.
Most of the performances are great. Rebecca Hall is extremely likeable in this film. She presented an emotional role to the film.
This is Johnny Depp's worst role, ever. It wasn't a bad performance, but it wasn't a really good one either.
Johnny Depp is one of the most profitable, and charismatic actors working today and it's a shame that this film will be another flop to his resume after absolutely no one saw The Lone Ranger last year (which was a favourite of mine).
The supporting cast are fantastic, including Morgan Freeman and a few other Christopher Nolan performers like Cillian Murphy.
If you thought that the Superman flick, Man of Steel, had an atrocious screenplay... I highly recommend you stay away from this film.
What could have been a gritty and suspenseful classic is a boring and mushy Nicholas Sparks novel film, which wasn't a novel written by Nicholas Sparks.
It has some of the worst scene writing in all of the films I have seen.
Keeping in mind it was a Science Fiction film, I thought the screenplay could've been a lot better.
The film looks absolutely grey and dull.
I thought that because it was directed by an award winning cinematographer, it would have looked phenomenal.
But it's filled with unnecessary shots and boring camera angles.
Transcendence's climax is overly long, and takes a turn for all the couples in the audience.
This is one of the worst films I've seen since After Earth.
The only good thing I could say about Transcendence is that it has a great story.
But the story to script transition isn't even worth it the watch.
