Not the best weekend to head out in the boat

BOATING may be the main hobby for Gladstone people at the weekend but maybe not this weekend.

Gladstone Volunteer Marine Rescue chief controller Hamish McLeod said with 70% chance of rain on Saturday and big swells it might be a good weekend to stay home.

"It's not real flash with strong wind warnings from the south east of 10-25 knots and up to 30 knots off-shore on Saturday," he said.

"Sunday the strong wind warning has been cancelled with an easterly of 10-15 knots."

The swell is also quite big with a 1.5m swell on Saturday on top of a 2.25m sea.

On Sunday with a 1.5m swell and 2.5m swell offshore.

Mr McLeod recommended that if people were going out on their boat to stay in the harbour confines.

If anyone is going out boating they should check in with the VMR before leaving and tell them about the return date.
