Kiwis, Germans, Brits and Yanks flock to Noosa

NOOSA'S appeal with international visitors has surged 16.7% to 134,000, with a strong showing from New Zealand, German, US and British tourists.

The Noosa figures are double the Queensland average, according to the figures released by Tourism Research Australia for the year ending March 2015.

Tourism Noosa CEO Damien Massingham said that Noosa's international numbers growth rate compared with 11.2% increases for the rest of the Sunshine Coast region.

"Noosa's total share of the Sunshine Coast international market is also up to 52% and our share of Queensland is also up to 6.1%," Mr Massingham said.

"Noosa's key international markets of Germany, United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand have all achieved significant growth with Germany up 47.5%, the US up 38.5% and the UK up 15.2%.

"Importantly, international visitor spend is up in Noosa as well, increasing 5.7% to $142.3 million, while the rest of the Sunshine Coast spend was down 22%.

"While visitor numbers are important, visitor spend is critical, keeping Noosa's economy buoyant," he said.

Mr Massingham said these latest figures were "great news" and followed on from recent domestic visitor results, revealing Noosa as one of Queensland's strongest growth destinations.

"Visitors are also spending more time in Noosa with international visitor nights up 15.3% to 913,000 nights while the rest of the Sunshine Coast numbers were down 2.5%.

"The UK market contributed 185,000 nights, New Zealand 137,000 nights and Germany 90,000 nights.

"Tourism Noosa's proactive and consistent work, partnered with a commitment from local operators and strong support from the travel trade, is reaping rewards for the destination.

"We've focused on building strong relationships and driving innovative consumer marketing, including a recent promotion in the UK with Noosa-based global fashion company Holster and boutique wholesaler, Turquoise Holidays."
