Short listing process started for Gladstone youth council

NOMINATIONS have now closed for the new Gladstone Region Youth Council with 15 prospective candidates submitting applications.

Gladstone Regional Council's Youth Development team has started the short listing process.

Interviews will be carried out this week with the successful applicants to be announced by the end of April.

The Gladstone Region Youth Council will consist of nine members and will include a chairperson, deputy chairperson and seven general members.

Interest in the new youth council has been strong, Gladstone Region Mayor Gail Sellers said.

Councillor Sellers said she was impressed by the calibre of applicants and their keen interest in making the voice and interests of local youth be heard.

Cr Sellers said it was wonderful to see that nominations had come from different localities including Gladstone, Boyne Island, Tannum Sands and Calliope.

"It won't be an easy decision to select the nine representatives," she said.

"We had a good mix of applicants from those in education and employment, both male and female."
