No Patel parallel with Rocky hospital cases - CQHHS chair

Jayant Patel
Jayant Patel DAN PELED

ANY similarities between the case of high-profile surgeon Jayant Patel and Dr Antonio Vega Vega were yesterday denied by Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service chair Charles Ware.

Mr Ware said there had been no deaths and no cover up.

Dr Patel was accused of causing grievous bodily harm to his patients in Bundaberg.

Mr Ware said he wanted people to know Rockhampton Hospital was a safe hospital and would not tolerate botched surgeries. The board asked the director-general to commission an independent clinical review of the incident.

CQHHS has also reported the matter to the Health Quality Complaints Commission and asked it to review the systems and processes in place. One review will investigate the incident and the other will investigate the internal systems.
