No need to panic, it’s almost Christmas

GUESS what? There's 11 weeks 'til Christmas.

If you're like me, you'll just have thought that's 11 weeks to get myself together, organise everything so that when December comes you'll have an easy run and relax.

If you're like most people, you'll have just read that and then dismissed it as stupidity and moved along to the classifieds, then when December comes you'll be the biggest stress head because you've left everything to the last minute!

Here's a tip: get organised.

One of the best ways I've used over the years, because I'm a bloke and I'm very simple, is to buy your gifts months in advance so it's all taken care of.

Just go to your specified cupboard at home and drag out those gifts the night before without any last minute stress.

Instead of having large boxes of gifts, which can only take up space but also room that the beer can be kept in, buy gift cards.

They are small, easy to purchase and they also are easy to carry to those parties. No lugging around cartons of stupidness when you don't need to.

A word of warning though. Giving them is easy, but if you do by chance receive them from some smart person, remember to use them.

Do not let them expire, as there is nothing worse than trying to cash them in at the checkout to be told by some future prime minister that you can't use it to buy those Royal Doulton barbecue tongs.

The best way to combat this is to use them the day after receiving them.

Boxing Day is the day to go out and buy anything you see, just so you've used the gift card and it won't go to waste.

If you need a silicone bake set, buy it.

Spend up big, I say. That's my advice this gift-giving season.

If you are giving a gift card here's another tip: give them a card there isn't a store for in their area.

That does two things: they hate you for doing it and it also gives you a reason to laugh because that's what Christmas is all about.

Fun, family and annoying people, like family. Merry Christmas for 11 weeks' time.
