INTERSTATE raiders came and conquered at Benaraby Raceway, as a bumper crowd enjoyed the weekend's Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars meet.
An absolute spectacle, supercharged sedans tore down the straight, with Sydneysider Rick Gauci, in Nitro Express, taking home the toffees, claiming victory in the three-run points format.
Series manager Steve Bettes said the meet had been a raging success and was stunned by the turnout from local petrol heads.
"It was absolutely sensational, a record crowd according to the Benaraby club," Bettes said.
"They (the crowd) just loved it, absolutely loved it and it's done great for the club, the stands were seriously full of people."
Let's Boogie driver Justin Walshe said it was a buzz zipping down the straight to such a large throng of fans.
"It was awesome, very, very happy with it," he said.
Fourth overall, after winning two of his three runs, Walshe said it had been smooth sailing until evening dew brought with it some tricky conditions.
"We're happy with it, it's a little bit hard late at night with the dew but everyone had to deal with it," Walshe said.
When asked whether the event would be returning next year, Bettes' response was succinct.
"You betcha we'll be coming back next year. We'll be putting an even better show on," he said.
