Motocross rider fights back from horror crash

IT took her a while to walk again, but trail bike rider Nikki Duclos, 30, has fiercely returned to the sport she loves.

The motorbike enthusiast fractured her tibia (leg), snapped her ACL and MCL (knee ligaments) and broke her scaphoid bone (wrist) in a motocross track crash 18 months ago.

"It kept me from walking for about eight months," she said.

"I took a few years off riding but I'm back on the bikes now."

Ms Duclos was one of 680 riders at the Murphys Creek trail ride at the weekend, run by the Toowoomba Motor Cycle Club.

Trail boss Doug Watson said the turnout of riders was fantastic and the rain made for fun riding conditions.

"It's the first wet ride we've had and everyone really enjoyed it," he said.

"The riders all came back with very positive feedback and there were no injuries at all, just very minor first aid.

"We put a big focus on safety this year and have a strategy in place that used technology with GPS to optimise emergency preparedness and response."

Raffles were raising money for the Murphys Creek State School and the Toowoomba Motor Cycle Club junior riders.
