Newspapers... where do you read yours?

WATCHING my other half do his usual morning routine of sneaking off to the "John" with today's NewsMail paper, it got me wondering how everyone else might read their daily newspaper?

Ever since I was a little girl, I took great observation in how family members and others read their newspapers.

My grandfather took the paper to the toilet with him while my grandmother read it at the dining table over a cup of tea.

My father took the paper to the toilet with him while my mother read it at the dining table with a cup of tea.

My much older brothers took the paper to the toilet with them as well.

When I visited friends, their parents would often be reading the newspaper while lounging in front of a TV or sitting in the breeze on a veranda.

After observing the difference between my family and my friends' families, I recall wondering if the males in my family used the newspapers as toilet paper?

I must admit I tried to walk in my family's shoes by trying the new trend of toilet paper.

My curiosity quickly turned to horror as I tried out my new brand of toilet paper!

I mustered up every ounce of courage I could to confess to my parents what I had done.

I was hoping that my confession would lead to some much-needed answers.

Turned out that I was way off track with my curiosity.

The men in my household enjoyed reading the paper while on the toilet because they were in "peace" to read with no interruptions.

While the women didn't mind the interruptions as much as the males.

My grandmother liked reading the weather information and she would cut the mere male joke sections out and collect them into a bucket to share with visitors.

My grandfather loved the news sections.

My mother loved the crosswords, my father would only read the sports sections (particularly anything on football) and my brothers were right into the sports sections alongside our dad.

I myself never took much interest in reading newspapers until I was in my mid 20s.

I am mostly drawn to local news and the buying/selling section.

I like to read my paper over a cup of tea at the dining table just like my mother and grandmother while my other half runs off with the paper to the "John" and he loves reading all the news.

Well... the amount of time he spends in the can with the paper, I am almost positive he might read the entire paper... twice!

How do you read your paper? What's your favorite section? How did your family read the paper?
