CQFC Energy prepare to compete against Malaysian team

MALAYSIA is set to add international flavour to the Queensland National Premier League in 2014 and Central Queensland FC Energy Ray Wood could not be happier.

With the 2014 NPL season fixtures released this week, Wood (pictured) was rubbing his hands together in anticipation.

The draw saw CQFC on home soil for their first round clashing with competition newcomers South West Queensland Thunder.

While Wood was excited for the match, it was the prospect of facing Brisbane Roar and Malaysia that had him on the edge of his seat.

"The draw is really good, there are three new teams in the competition with the South West Queensland Thunder,

National Youth League Brisbane Roar, and an under-23 international team from Malaysia," Wood said.

"The exciting teams are the Roar and the Malaysian team."I was excited about the Roar but the Malaysian International side is even bigger and better.

"At this stage they (Malaysia) will be playing all away games, which means that we will host two home games against an international side, which is going to be huge for the likes of the Asian community in Rockhampton."

The Energy squad was back on the field on Monday night after the Christmas break and Wood was impressed.

"Everything is looking really good, we have another three signings to announce in the next few weeks who are originally from CQ," he said.

"They are looking to return home because they can see that good things are happening up here."

Facing the Thunder in the opening round of the season, Wood said he did not know what to expect.

"We don't know anything about them because they are a completely new side," Wood said.

The senior Energy squad will be announced on January 20.
