New online medicine database launched

PEOPLE who want to know what adverse effects medicines might have on them can now find out for themselves, with a new online database launched on Wednesday.

The database includes more than 250,000 reports from consumers, the medicines industry and doctors about adverse effects from medicines available in Australia.

Among the medications people can search for are prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines sold in pharmacies and supermarkets, as well as complementary medicines such as vitamins and herbal remedies.

Visit the Therapeutic Goods Administration website to access the database.
