New Observer editor, advertising manager team ready to connect with region
The Observer has a new team leading the ship.
Jon Ortlieb started as editor this week after moving north from South Australia while Ben Williams began yesterday as media advertising manager.
Mr Ortlieb is a former editor of another Australian Regional Media publication, The Daily Mercury in Mackay before returning home for family reasons a year ago.
"It is great to be back in Queensland and I can see Gladstone is a vibrant and upbeat place,” Mr Ortlieb said.
"With this new team, it's the perfect opportunity for the Observer to become an even stronger contributor in this community.”
ARM editorial director Bryce Johns said Mr Ortlieb would bring serious journalism credentials to the newsroom.
"The Observer was last week a finalist for best regional website in Australasia at the PANPA awards,” he said.
"Jon's ability to tell a story and get to know the community will mean the print product grows in stature as well.''
Mr Ortlieb replaces Rowan Hunnam, who has been promoted to Mackay.
Meanwhile, commercial manager Ben Williams is looking forward to gaining insight into the needs of our clients. He has come up from Melbourne where he was a new business development manager with The Aussie Commerce Group.
"Since arriving in Gladstone 12 months ago, I've developed a keen interest in community-based activities and local attractions,” Mr Williams said.
"I have joined the Observer at an exciting time as there seems to be a lot happening with many local businesses reaching significant milestones.”
