New Maccas for the city

FAST food lovers can rejoice - the new McDonald's City store is now open.

After months of anticipation the new Glenlyon Rd, Gladstone restaurant opened its doors at 5am today.

The new store injected more than 100 new jobs to the local economy, with the

Glenlyon Rd store set to alleviate the growing pressures on Gladstone's existing

Dawson Highway store, Kin Kora.

Yesterday, owner of the two Gladstone McDonald's stores Ron Hawkins invited the Observer on an exclusive tour of the new facility, which boasts a McCafe, revamped children's Playland and spacious car park.

"I am really pleased with the team of new crew members we have employed - with 50% (of staff) comprising local high school and university students, and many mature-age and international staff," he said.

"In addition to the new crew coming on board at the Gladstone City restaurant, we are pleased to bring across some of our existing high performing crew members into management positions."

Ron said new staff members at McDonald's were provided with training support, with staff acquiring skills that could transfer into management, accounting, marketing or human resource careers later in life.

The new McDonald's will have Wi-Fi capabilities and a 24-hour drive-through.

The dine-in section will operate between 4am-1am.
