Junior band to have first rehearsal in 10 years
THE Junior Gladstone Municipal Band is no longer extinct after getting some new wind in old pipes.
The brass and percussion band will have its first rehearsal in 10 years this Monday.
Band conductor Leanne Christensen said the band provided a great opportunity for brass players to expand their musical experience.
"The brass band allows musicians to gain experience playing a different role," she said.
"We will play all sorts of tunes, whatever comes out of the cupboard."
Junior trumpeter Lilanthi Wild said playing in a band is a great way to practice.
"The band provides a lot of opportunity to learn from others," she said.
Sarah Jacobs' son Nate plays in the band and said she couldn't thank Ms Christensen enough.
"It's awesome that Leanne has revived the Gladstone Junior Municipal Band," she said.
"She also revived our St Johns School Band."
The first rehearsal in a decade will be held at the George Young Hall at 6.30pm.
