New kid on the block Fletcher looks at the budget

INDEPENDENT candidate for Flynn Nathan Fletcher threw his hat into the ring last month to challenge sitting MP Ken O'Dowd.

Here are his thoughts on the budget.

Although there were plenty of things he did like, equally there were plenty of things he didn't like.

He has concerns over proposed changes to superannuation but was relatively pleased with changes for small business and changes to tax brackets.

"The PaTH plan for younger job seekers is a good way to help them enter the workforce, however a review is needed...to bring capable workers back into jobs," Mr Fletcher said.

"I did support Labor's view on a renewed focus on Climate Change, although I would not support a recall of the Carbon Tax."

He would have liked to have seen more funding for aged and palliative care as well as money for environmental preservation.

Mr Fletcher said he would look to assist GPC through its 50 year plan, provide further funding for the beef road project, agriculture, upgrades to the Bruce Hwy for an intermodal hub and for the lower Fitzroy River Water Infrastructure Development.
