New crew to finish road
KIRKWOOD Road construction will be completed by Golding Contractors, instead of Gladstone Regional Council as originally intended.
Council agreed at Tuesday’s meeting to release the Portions B and C of the tender for construction by the successful tenderer, Golding Contractors.
Council’s Infrastructure Services director Ross Paroz said Portion B of the project had been held back as council was earmarked to undertake the construction.
However, consultations and other projects on the horizon have meant council’s crew was busy enough without having to undertake this part of the project.
The report tabled at the meeting stated for council’s crew to construct these works, council would be required to have National OHS Accreditation in place, which was not likely to occur in the near future.
The negotiations for the acquisition of land required for the four-lane construction is almost complete with only one remaining acquisition not finalised.
Works are well underway and are now progressing rapidly with the dry weather for Portion A.
Council’s Design Services were close to completing the design of Glenlyon Road (south of Kirkwood Road). The extent of works planned is from Tree Tops Close for about 1000 metres, nearing the turnoff to Mt Rollo Road.
Detailed design for the intersection of Glenlyon, Bukkan and Daley roads is nearing completion. Initially the road will only be constructed as an unsignalised T-intersection, however it will eventually be a fully signalised four-way intersection.
