New course for fun run brings spectators close to action

A NEW course will liven up the journey for runners at the Gladstone Road Runners Harbour Festival Fun Run on Friday, bringing the crowds of energetic participants closer to the festival action.

Beginning next to the Marina Bridge and venturing into the marina, the event will still include a 3km and 10km distance option for runners on Friday morning.

Road Runners president Brett Stevens wants Gladstone residents to be able to be active over the Easter break, but stressed getting to the new start in ample time.

"It is at a new location, on the left of the Marina Bridge," he said. "There is parking nearby and you will be able to see the signs."

Capped at 350 entrants, the event is a chance for Gladstone families to earn their chocolate eggs over Easter.

Consistently attracting large crowds, Stevens said the event was aimed at fun rather than a serious race.

"It is more focused on participation and random prizes," he said.

Beginning at 7am, registrations are taken from 6-6.45am, leaving much of the day free to enjoy festivities.

The course venue allows for easier access to the festival than any of the previous 20 plus years of the fun run.

"We have it at that time to get it out of the way and let everyone enjoy the day," Stevens said.

"It will be even easier this year right next to the other events."

The event requires a $5 entry fee. Registrations are taken only on the day.
