New childcare centre gets green light at Riverstone Rise

GLADSTONE Regional Council has approved a development application for a new childcare centre within the Riverstone Rise estate at Wurdong Heights and Boyne Island.

The single-storey childcare centre is expected to cater for a maximum of 105 children, from newborn to school age, and will operate from 7am to 6pm, seven days a week.

The council's regional strategy portfolio spokesman Matt Burnett said the allocation of a childcare centre had been included in the overall Riverstone Rise development plan approved in 2011.

"The inclusion of a childcare centre was seen as a key requirement of the master planned community, and the provision of this service will help ease the burden being experienced by childcare providers throughout our fast growing region," Cr Burnett said.

"The centre has been included in Stage 1A of Riverstone Rise, and it is envisaged that it will employ 15 staff members and be divided into a number of spaces to cater for each age group of children."
