‘New blood’ needed to strengthen SES crews
HERE is an opportunity to help the community and make new friends.
The Warwick SES is holding a recruitment night on February 4 and member Matt Sondergeld is calling for 'new blood'.
"We would like to see new, keen faces turn up to the recruitment night," Mr Sondergeld said.
"I'm not talking someone extremely fit, because I'm not at the peak of fitness either.
"But we do some physically demanding activities, for example some jobs may require us to walk for hours in bushland or on mountains."
Mr Sondergeld joined the SES eight years ago.
"I joined because I wanted to help the community and meet new people," he said.
"It's very rewarding work.
"I've helped out in many different emergency situations, including Roma, Charleville and NSW floods."
Mr Sondergeld said they expected new members to attend every meeting for the first six months.
"There's an induction process and quite a bit of training to go through," he said.
"We like our members to be active and come along to the meeting every Tuesday night."
There will be a barbecue on the recruitment night and most of the SES equipment will be there for people to check out.
The SES hut is located in the Town Hall car park, behind the cinema.
The night will kick off at 7pm.
