New road could make Nagoorin the next 'little Maleny'
NAGOORIN resident Kerry Maddin believes his town is growing into a 'little metropolis' thanks to a number of infrastructure improvements.
Mr Maddin has lived in Milton St, Nagoorin for 10 years, an old road made of white dust.
It's caused many problems for residents on Milton Rd and Dawes St who were suffering from asthma, sinus irritation, coughing and watery eyes.
After pushing for the Gladstone Regional Council to resurface the road for more than four years and starting a petition, Mr Maddin's dream finally came true.
"Every car that would go past would raise dust and my asthma came back from when I was a kid," he said.
"But I fought for the road and kept hammering.
"It was fixed in late April and it has been aqua mulched and everything.
"We got the royal treatment here and the council was out of this world."
Mr Milton and his wife Shirley put their house up for sale three years ago due to the dust, but mainly because of Shirley's health.
She needs to see a specialist regularly and the closest specialist is in Nambour.
"We are seriously considering staying now because it's paradise," Mr Maddin said.
"The road has put a lot of people off buying here until now and there's been seven new homes built in the last two years.
"Nagoorin is now everything you could wish for.
"We've got a brilliant general store, three schools, Kroombit Tops, a great pub at Many Peaks and everyone's just so friendly."
