Muscat takes aim at keeper after Glory defeat

MELBOURNE Victory threw away three points in Perth, conceding two late goals to lose, and coach Kevin Muscat has questioned the role of his goalkeeper in the collapse.

For the second time in just over a week, the positioning of Lawrence Thomas's wall has come under scrutiny after conceding free kicks against Brisbane's Dimitri Petratos and, on Saturday night, Nebojsa Marinkovic.

Besart Berisha missed a penalty in the first half for the Victory but successfully converted a second spot-kick in the 58th minute.

But first Marinkovic and then Adam Taggart - in the 84th minute - scored for Perth to steal the three points.

Marinkovic's 71st-minute strike levelled the scores after Victory missed a host of chances, and Muscat didn't hold back.

"In general I'm in a bit of disbelief we didn't come away with the three points," he told Fox Sports after the game. "We had a number of chances to increase the lead and we played really well.

"Some poor decisions - for the first goal, a poor decision and then the same for the second goal. We gave two goals away when we should be leaving Perth with something."

Muscat was then pushed as to whether travel played a factor, with Melbourne playing away in Wellington on Tuesday before travelling to Perth. But his answer was blunt, and directed at his goalkeeper.

"That (the travel) had nothing to do with it. That doesn't stop you from setting the wall up properly."

Former Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Bosnich also questioned the positioning of Thomas's wall.

"When you get a free kick in the centre of the goal, especially one that's close to the box, that wall was pretty much in the centre," he said on Matchday Saturday. "When it's a right-footer you (should) set the wall up on the goalkeeper's side so they have to go over the wall. If it's a left-footer, you set it up on the other side.

"You can't put it in the centre."
