Miracle rescue of cat, kittens found dumped in creek
A MOTHER cat and her five kittens are recovering after being rescued from a dumped suitcase at Eli Creek.
Weighted down with a rock, the suitcase, which had been zipped shut, was discovered on the banks of Eli Creek on Monday.
While severely dehydrated and stressed, the cat and her kittens survived and are recovering in an air-conditioned cattery at the Hervey Bay Animal Refuge.
The refuge wrote about the incident on its Facebook page and the post has been shared more than 180 times.
RSPCA Regional Inspector Penny Flaherty said reports of kitten and puppy dumping were unfortunately received regularly and urged people to have their pets desexed.
She warned animal dumping was a crime and if sufficient evidence was found, offenders would be prosecuted could face hefty fines.
