COURT NEWS: Mum turns to using ice after baby loss

A MOTHER blames her use of the drug ice on the loss of her baby on Christmas Day.

However, a Gladstone magistrate told Megan Robinson her criminal record shows her drug use began before that tragic event in December 2014.

Robinson, 30, from Calliope, pleaded guilty to possession of ice and a glass smoking pipe found in her caravan on February 16 last year; possession of ice, electronic scales, clip seal bags and glass pipes in Gladstone on May 23; and having a mobile phone on September 23 that was used in a drug offence.

She got 12 months probation.

Duty lawyer Jun Pepito said she turned to drugs after the loss of her baby and was hanging around with the wrong crowd.

Magistrate Penelope Hay said it seems her mental health had suffered from drug use and instead of giving money to criminals she should engage in the community.
