The Church, Mia Dyson under Milky Way at Mullum Music Fest

MULLUM Music Festival will remain a launchpad for emerging talent this year, as alternative rock legends The Church join a line-up of more than 80 international and national acts.

The festival announced the line-up today, which also includes Holy Holy, Hurray For the Riff Raff, Mia Dyson, The Bombay Royale, Saskwatch and more.

Harry James Angus from The Cat Empire and Jackson Jackson has been dubbed the festival's patron and will replace Mama Kin.

Festival director Glenn Wright said theatre, street circus, impromptu performances, workshops, the Rhythms Magazine BBQ, a psychedelic Magic Bus and a street parade will feature.

He was pleased to add the festival will have no gates, no port-a-loos, no bag searches and no endless queues.

"This is the seventh year and I suppose we've got this really loyal following built up now," Mr Wright said.

"We haven't really had big headliners in the past, but this year we've got The Church and that is a real score for the festival.

"I'm competing with some of the best festivals around, like Splendour and BluesFest, so I try and focus on local, international and overseas bands just starting out and getting noticed; something a bit different."

Angus, who will perform with various bands and artists, sang the praises of the unpretentious and relaxed festival.

"Every year Mullum Festival shows me wonderful artists I haven't seen before, and the artists that I have seen before doing things they don't usually do - playing in the street parade, spinning out spontaneous collaborations, singing with the local choir," Angus said.

The festival will be held from November 20-23, spread over 12 venues and will feature more than 120 performances and workshops.
